Korat: Pet Rottweilers kill their Dutch owners' daughter

For everything that has to do with animals, endangered species, pets etc., what attractions worth seeing at the Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo or in cages at some Buddhist temples in the depth of Isaan. What wildlife can be seen at the National Park or even in the ricefields.

Pet rottweilers kill their owners' daughter

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: The 2-year-old daughter of a Dutch expat and his Thai wife was mauled to death early this morning by the two rottweilers they kept as guard dogs at the family's home in Nakhon Ratchasima.

The mother, Jintana Ploo, who was seriously injured after trying to save her daughter from the two dogs, said her husband had raised the rottweilers to guard the house and family because their home had been broken into several times before.

Khun Jintana said that the dogs jumped on her daughter when she put her down on the floor so she could unlock the front door.

She added that her husband was in Holland where he works most of the time, visiting her and his daughter once in a while.

Horrible!

I heard from another source that this happened around 1 am. Of course guard dogs or better attack dogs - what Rottweilers are - are more "nervous" during their "time of duty" in the night. It might not have been the time to come home with a child of that age either. This isn't meant as criticism but to learn from. Rottweilers are no pets!

The way I understand the mother and her child just came home from a birthday party. Since parties in Thai families usually don't start in the evening it might have been a while since the dogs got some food . . .

And Bangkok Post writes that the brother of the mother gave the dogs to the police for hunting criminals. The army didn't want them, said they were "unsuitable".

Re: Korat City to clamp down on rottweilers

City to clamp down on rottweilers

Nakhon Ratchasima will take a census of rottweilers to prevent more maulings. A two-year-old girl was killed when attacked by dogs on Thursday.

Mayor Surawuth Cherdchai said the municipality would start tomorrow speaking with owners of the breed to ensure they were properly cared for.

The animals will be registered, and there will be follow-up checks.

The city's 2,000 health volunteers will keep an eye on dogs to reduce the risk of attacks, he said.

The two dogs that killed the girl have been handed to a special police task force where they will be trained in security and attacking criminals.

Hopefully a beginning to successful animal control!
