Archive/Emergency Forum

Ungelesener Beitragvon KoratCat » Mi Jul 02, 2008 2:49 pm

Due to the vulnerability of internet forums by the admin maybe all of a sudden not being able to take care of them we installed an archive/emergency forum at

http://isaan.110mb.com/forum/index.php

If this forum here is for one reason or another not available anymore you can try to check there. It is intended to keep that forum on a free host for access at emergencies. Registered members can log in and send PMs to each other. Some moderators of this board here can even unlock the board for reading, posting and enabling registrations for new members or download the backup in case a new start at another host is necessary. Every few weeks the backup from this forum here will be read into the database there. Any PMs that had been sent over that board will then be overwritten with the ones stored on this board here. So please don't store your PMs there! It's just to make sure we don't loose contact to each other by some unforeseeable unfortunate event.

Please help developing this idea with suggestions how we can do that best.

I installed a robots.text file to limit the access of search engines now. It can be left open for reading all the time now. Google will not be able to read and punish us for double content. At least I hope so!

Sounds like a very good idea to me. Especially because that "financial factor" of making sure the host gets paid in time seems to be taken care of. :D

Rationalising the database

Ungelesener Beitragvon KoratCat » Mo Dez 15, 2008 10:24 am

Our database will be cleared from old and now less relevant threads from former years. This is necessary to keep the amount of data backed up regularly from not growing too fast. The threads deleted from the database will be uploaded to http://isaan.110mb.com/archive/ as .htm files. The link to each thread's archived location will be left in the remaing topic starting post. The topics deleted from the database cannot be found with the search function of the forum anymore, but Google will be able to find them once it has indexed them. And the post count of the forum and each contributor will not count these archived posts anymore.

Threads permanently relevant or still of high relevance will not be moved from the database to the archive . Newspaper articles that had been copied to the forum as a base for discussion will not be archived there; only the link to the original location will be given.
