FIVB Women's Junior World Championship starts Friday in Nakhon Ratchasima
Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, 19th July 2007 - Friday in Nakhon Ratchasima in Thailand the FIVB Women's Junior World Championships, the 14th in the FIVB history, is going to start; it will have its medal matches on Friday 27th.
Two pools of six teams each will start a classic Round Robin game, with Semi Finals and Finals Play offs, playing 42 matches in total.
Pool A will have host country Thailand, China, Egypt, Dominican Republic, Germany and U.S.A. The Mall Ratchasima's MCC Hall, a 4,000-seat facility, will host the Pool A matches. This will be the same hall for the Semi Finals and Finals.
Pool B, held in the 2,500-seat Chalerm Pharakiart Gymnasium, consists of Brazil, Italy, Japan, Puerto Rico, Croatia and Ukraine.
China and Brazil are the only countries with a full participation in all 13 editions. China won the World title in 1995. Brazil enters the tournament as the defending champion (title conquered in 2005 in Turkey) and has won the tournament 5 times, three times in a row in the last editions.
This will be the third time that Thailand has hosted the FIVB World Women's Junior Championship. The top-flight competition was held before in Bangkok in 1995 and Suphan Buri in 2003.
