Damaged but not Drowned
Korat-Info understands that farangs out there, are here because they have been damaged in some way by the system of society they came from.
Emigrants from Britain have not left a sinking ship, they were made to walk the plank! ( I cannot speak for others country)
We are not pirates and we don't need to behave like pariahs.
500000 are leaving the UK annually
We know we are only tolerated here in LOS.
But if the cap fits wear it.
And we should do unto other as they would do unto us. (only do it first where possible).
But do we need to take it out on each other in this and other websites?
Korat needs a "Centre" for farangs of all nationalities and their partners and children to meet at.
Who says AYE?
Who will cast the first pebble in the pond?
To cause the ripple that is needed

Re: Damaged but not Drowned
For sure we all went the easier way instead of fighting against walls. But does that mean we're outcasts?
Fact is that many of us are just hermits and enjoy life that way.

I sure would pop in,in a center like that, but not on a daily base.
I believe KC is right to classify many of us as "hermits".
The ones that are not, socialize already (most in bars tho).
It is an on going discussion

That's not a NO, that is a "WE"RE HEADING IN THAT DIRECTION BUT WE"RE STILL WAY FROM THAT!"
I for myself am working on it with this website. Others do their share in other ways. There is definitely interest but we still have problems coordinating them with the interested scattered over numerous websites which are not cooperating but rather competing with each other.
And in any case it is not the right time for this discussion because a large portion of the Korat Expats are still in Europe, USA and Australia at the moment, preparing the next "Winter in Korat". It will come! And also us "hermits" will be more sociable in cooler and more predictable weather.

Re: Damaged but not Drowned
Its called a "spark" Korat Cat. An idea. Something deperately needed here. I tried to ignite that into a small flame.Just as with all my contributions on Korat-Info. Pouring water on it was not exactly what I expected.
Dutch understands, as I do, the usefulness of having somewhere Farangs and family can go to for information, a cup of ?
and a feeling of belonging. Hermits do come out of their shells and no one was suggesting that those who want to remain so should take part.
The centre could be a Salon,Coffee shop,Library, Shop for the larger size clothes, Specialist foods, Notice/Info board and even a creche. It could be a viable business proposition for someone or sometwo. I am just brainstorming.
Anyone interest in a business share scheme?

Re: Damaged but not Drowned
I certainly appreciate your spark. I didn't want to pour water onto it to extinguish it.. But my now more than 18 years in Korat have taught me how easily a good idea gets lost in passing enthusiasm if not presented at the right time to make it work.
The group of people who can support such a project will be much larger when the "Winterexpats" are here too. Since most of them stay in Europe for the rest of the year only for the reason to still do some work and plan to retire here fully at a later time, they'll be very interested in supporting a project like that as investment for their own future. But they need to be here and meet others for that. If you let the enthusiasm already pass during the vacation period it will be difficult to revive it later.

Re: Damaged but not Drowned
Yes!
Damage limitation is what we all seek here!
That needs understanding!
Just what is the best way to do that?
Isolate ourselves (like hermits)or extend a hand of friendship?
What is the best way to extend that hand?
You know? On a Community basis?
A Korat and district (Good) Samaritans number to contact probably
Any positive suggestions welcome?

Re: Damaged but not Drowned
"How about an old-fashioned colonial club?" is the first people understand from this. Sounds very much like army and tough regulations. Not just the free life we "misfits" are looking for. Definitely a need, but how to approach that target without making it look military.
