Man immolates himself over Yongyuth case

(BangkokPost.com) - A 44-year-old man was seriously burnt when he set himself on fire in front of the Parliament early Friday to demand that House Speaker Yongyuth Tiyapairat be removed from post.

According to security guards in front of the Parliament, the man who is identified as Man Truatmanka, a native of Buri Ram, rode a motorcycle there and shouted "Yongyuth, Get Out" several times at around 5.30am. Then, he took off his shirt and pants, leaving only an underwear on, and threw petrol on himself before setting it on fire.

The guards tried to extinguish the flame and rushed Mr Man, meatballs seller, to Vajira Hospital.

He is currently treated in emergency room as his body and face were badly burnt. He is also under the respiratory machine.

The EC has handed the case against Yongyuth over to the Constitutional Court already who accepted it for consideration. Under thai law the office holder who is under investigation by the Constitutional Court has to be suspended from his office. But not so under amak, who just says no because Yongyuth would not have any influence upon the investigation. et's see how man officials and judges will be removed from their posts during this investigation.
